YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College baseball team took advantage of seven hit batters and five walks as they defeated Mars Hill University 13-7 in a non-conference game Tuesday (April 11) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 25 in Collegiate Baseball poll and No. 23 in NCBWA poll, improved to 29-11, while the Lions slipped to 11-30. Young Harris will face Carson-Newman University at 3 p.m. Wednesday (April 12) at home.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Young Harris jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first. Jeremy Begora drove in the first on a fielder's choice before Rome Wallace knocked in two on a double to left-center field. Drew Bray drove in the final run on a single up the middle.
- After Mars Hill scored three runs in the top of the second, the Mountain Lions pushed across four more runs in the fourth to open up an 8-3 lead. Ethan Underwood and Jarrett Ford had back-to-back RBI singles before Begora drove in another run with a single to left field.
- The Mountain Lions closed out the scoring with a five-run sixth inning without the benefit of a hit. YHC batters were issued three walks and hit by a pitch five times in the sixth inning as Young Harris sent 11 to the plate.
- YHC had 11 hits, including three from Bray and two more from Underwood and Jace Wilson.
- Underwood, Ford, Spell, Begora and Wallace each knocked in two runs.
- Trey Griffin (1-0) earned the win with four relief innings, allowing just one earned run.Â
