YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Christian Brothers University Wednesday (March 8) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field.
The Mountain Lions won by scores of 8-2 and 9-1 (five innings) to improve to 10-14, while the Buccaneers fell to 3-13. YHC returns to Peach Belt Conference action Friday (March 10) when they host Georgia College & State University at 5 p.m.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORES:
GAME 1
- Hannah Carey's three-run homer over the scoreboard in left field gave the Mountain Lions a 3-0 lead after the first inning. It was her eighth homer of the season.
- The Mountain Lions pushed across two more runs in the third on Hannah Rizzuto's single that richochet off second base and into the outfield.
- After Christian Brothers got a run back in the fourth, YHC scored three times in his half of the frame. Grace Young drove in the first run on a ground out and Shea Bayruether stroked a two-run single through the right side.
- Kylie Ferguson (4-6) earned the complete-game victory. She allowed two unearned runs and five hits, while striking out five.
- YHC collected 10 hits, including two each from Carey, Bayreuther and Erin Chambliss.
GAME 2
- YHC took advantage of a CBU error to tie the game at 1.
- The Mountain Lions batted around in the fourth inning to score seven runs. Young had a two-run single to right, while Bayreuther drove in another on a single up the middle. Gracie Hughes added an RBI single. YHC also scored two more runs on wild pitches and another on an error.
- Bailee Brown drove in the final run for the Mountain Lions in the fifth.
- Young (2-3) earned the win with the complete game. She struck out four and scattered five hits over five innings.
- Hughes had three hits, while Amber Divine had two more as YHC had seven in the nightcap.
