AMERICUS, Ga. | Georgia Southwestern State University picked up a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader from Young Harris College Friday (March 24) afternoon at Lady Canes Field.
The Hurricanes, who won by scores of 3-2 and 11-3 (5 innings), improved to 25-8 overall and to 8-3 in the PBC . The Mountain Lions fell to 13-21 and 5-9. The two teams conclude their three-game weekend set at 1 p.m. Saturday (March 25).
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Game 1
- YHC took a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Aubrey Bourrie doubled down the left field line and came around to score on Grace Young's RBI single to right.
- The Mountain Lions tied the game at 2 in the sixth on Bourrie's sacrifice fly to left field that scored Bailee Brown, who led off the inning with a triple down the left field line.
- GSW won the game in the bottom of the sixth on Kimmy Singer's squeeze bunt.
- Kylie Ferguson (5-9) took the loss.
Game 2
- YHC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Young's RBI double and Shea Bayreuther's run-scoring single to left.
- The Mountain Lions scored their final run in the fourth on Shelby Duncan's first homer of the season.
- Georgia Southwestern scored in every inning, but the second.
- Gracie Hughes had two of the seven hits for the Mountain Lions in the nightcap.
- Young (3-5) took the loss for YHC.
