FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. | Wyatt Peek scored four goals, including three in the final seven minutes as the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team rallied for a 12-11 overtime decision over Emmanuel (Ga.) College Wednesday (March 22) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-8, while the Lions fell to 1-8. Young Harris opens up Peach Belt Conference action Saturday (March 25) when they travel to Rome, Georgia, for a 1 p.m. contest against Shorter University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Emmanuel opened up a 9-6 entering the fourth quarter as the Lions scored three consecutive goals.
- Dylan Young and Kieran Isbister scored back-to-back goals to open the fourth quarter to pull within a goal at 9-8.
- After Emmanuel added a goal, the Mountain Lions tied the match at 10 as Young and Peek scored back-to-back goals with 6:25 remaining in regulation.
- A Devon Roberts goal with 2:52 left put the Lions back up 11-10, but Peek scored the equalizer for the Mountain Lions with three ticks left on the clock.
- The Mountain Lions took the opening possession in overtime and Colburn Connelly found Peek open on the right side and Peek powered it past the Emmanuel goal for YHC's second overtime win of the season.
- Tommy Chriszt added three goals for the Mountain Lions, while Young had two. David Traywick, Isbister and Gunnar Fagerstrom added one goal apiece,
- Chriszt led YHC with four assists, while Traywick, Isbister, and Connelly had one each.
- The Mountain Lions outshot the Lions 56-30 and had a 33-16 margin in ground balls.
- Jacob Haas, who had 13 face-off wins, and Isbister each led YHC with six ground balls apiece. Ben Soenen corralled five ground balls, while YHC goalie Dylan Wilbur scooped up four.
- The Mountain Lions forced 33 Emmanuel turnovers. Soenen led the way with six caused turnovers, while Dane Dompier had five and Tim Blanch recorded four.
- Wilbur led the Mountain Lions with 11 saves in goal.
