GREENWOOD, S.C. | Lander University salvaged the final game of its Peach Belt Conference softball series with Young Harris College 7-3 Sunday (March 19) afternoon at Doug Spears Field.
The Bearcats improved to 16-10 overall and to 7-5 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions, who took two-of-three games from Lander, fell to 13-19 and 5-7. YHC will travel to Greeneville, Tennessee, for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Tusculum University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The Mountain Lions took advantage of a Lander throwing error to take a 1-0 lead in the first.
- Lander responded with four runs in its half of the inning.
- Hannah Rizzuto doubled to left field to score Gracie Hughes, who reached on a single in the third inning.
- The Mountain Lions scored their final run as Aubrey Bourrie led off the seventh with a home run to center field to cut the deficit to 7-3. It was her first homer of the season.
- Bourrie and Hannah Carey had two hits each as the Mountain Lions had eight as a team.
- Kylie Ferguson (5-8) absorbed the loss in the circle.
