ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | The Young Harris College baseball team took borh ends of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader from Flagler College Friday (March 17) at Drysdale Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 19-7 overall and to 10-4 in the PBC after they defeated the Saints by scores of 9-6 and 7-6. Flagler fell to 5-19 and 1-10. Due to rain expected in the Ancient City tomorrow (March 18), the series finale will be played at noon Sunday (March 19).
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
GAME 1
- The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first two innings.
- YHC scored its first run in the first inning on one of six errors committed by the Saints.
- Drew Bray drove in a run with a single up the middle in the second and James Basham knocked in two more with a double down the left field line.
- Flagler closed the margin to one 4-3 after the Saints pushed across three runs in the fifth.
- YHC got a run back in the sixth on an RBI double to right-center from Marco Colina and added a run an inning later on Bray's single up the middle to take a 6-3 lead.
- The Saints tied the game at 6 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
- The Mountain Lions regained the lead on Rome Wallace's ninth-inning single up the middle and added two unearned runs on a dropped fly ball by the Flagler left fielder.
- Dylan Beck (1-3) earned the win with 1.2 innings of relief.
- YHC had 14 hits in the opener with Basham and Steven Spell leading the way with three hits each. Bray and Wallace had two hits apiece.
GAME 2
- The Mountain Lions built up a 7-0 through the first three innings.
- Colina drove in a run with a ground out in the first inning and Ethan Underwood, who had double, scored on a wild pitch.
- Basham had an RBI single in the second before YHC scored four runs in third inning.
- Jeremy Begora drove in a run with a single, Bray added a sacrifice fly and Basham knocked in two runs on a single down the left field line.
- Flagler got within a run at 7-6, but Beck earned his fourth save of the year with 1.2 scoring innings of relief.
- Zach Murray (2-2) earned the win as a he struck out eight in five innings.
- Basham collected another three hits in the nightcap, while Spell and Bray had two apiece. YHC had 11 hits as a team.
