YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College and Emmanuel (Ga.) College split a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday (March 1) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field,
The Mountain Lions won the opener 8-2 before the Lions held off YHC in the nightcap 6-5. YHC improved to 7-12, while the Lions fell to 8-10. Young Harris will host Flagler College in a 1 p.m. Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Saturday (March 4).
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
GAME 1
- Kylie Ferguson (3-5) recorded the complete-game win in the circle for the Mountain Lions. She allowed just five hits and one earned run. She struck out six while walking no one.
- Seven of the eight runs the Mountain Lions scored were unearned as YHC took advantage of five Emmanuel errors.
- YHC opened up a 5-0 lead in the second. Hannah Rizzuto, Erin Chambliss and Grace Young each drove in a run with a single.
- The Mountain Lions added a run in the fifth as Shea Bayreuther had a RBI double to left-center field.
- Bayreuther and Young each had two hits as YHC had eight in the game.
GAME 2
- After Emmanuel took a 4-0 lead in the second, the Mountain Lions used a four-run fourth inning to knot the game at 4. Rizzuto had a two-run single to center field before Amber Divine stroked a two-run single to left.
- The Lions pushed across two runs in the top of the fifth before YHC got a run back on a Hannah Carey home run to center field. It was her sixth of the season.
- Seven different Mountain Lions had a hit in the nightcap.
- Teresa Dixon (2-2) took the loss in relief for YHC.Â
