ROME, Ga. | Young Harris College swept a softball doubleheader from Shorter University Saturday (Feb. 4) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-0 with wins of 7-5 and 8-4, while the Hawks fell to 0-2. The teams wrap up their three-game series Sunday (Feb. 5) at 2 p.m.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
GAME 1
- The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Hannah Carey clubbed a two-run homer after Amber Devine started the first inning with a walk.
- Carey added a leadoff homer in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Shea Bayreuther tripled later in the frame and scored on a Trinity Aycock ground out.
- Gracie Hughes gave YHC a 7-1 lead in the fourth with a three-run homer.
- Kylie Ferguson (1-0) earned the win with 4.2 innings of relief.
- Jill Dixon earned a save by throwing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief after Shorter closed to within 7-5.
- Carey, Hughes and Bayreuther had two hits eachÂ
GAME 2
- The Mountain Lions took control of the game with a five-run third inning. Carey started the uprising with an RBI double and was followed by Hughes' two-run double to left. Bayreuther closed out the scoring with a two-run homer.
- Bayreuther and Aycock each had RBI singles in the fourth inning as YHC took a 7-4 lead.
- The Mountain Lions scored their final run on Hughes' home run in the sixth.
- Teresa Dixon (1-0) earned the win with four innings of scoreless relief.
- Hughes has three hits, while Bayreuther and Aycock had two.
