WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. | Jarrett Ford collected five hits and drove in four runs as No. 30 Young Harris College routed Palm Beach Atlantic University 20-6 in seven innings in a non-conference baseball game Sunday (Feb. 12) afternoon at Jake Rubin Park.
The Mountain Lions improved to 5-2, while the Sailfish fall to 5-1. Young Harris will wrap up its opening eight-game road trip to start the season Tuesday (Feb. 14) when they travel to Cleveland, Tennessee, for a 3 p.m. game against Lee University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The Mountain Lions scored in every inning but the fourth.
- YHC scored three times in the first. Ford had a run-scoring double to left, before Ethan Stamps and Steven Spell each added a sacrifice fly.Â
- After the Sailfish got a run back, the Mountain Lions erupted for six runs in the second. Rome Wallace started the rally with his second home run - a solo shot - of the season. Marco Colina, Drew Bray, Stamps and Spell each had a double that drove in runs.
- Ford stroked a two-run double in the third that put the Mountain Lions up 11-1. Jeremy Begora drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk and Wallace knocked in another after being hit by a pitch.
- YHC scored three more times in the fifth to open up a 16-3 lead. The Mountain Lions scored a run on a balk, while Ethan Underwood had a sacrifice fly and Colina had an RBI single.
- The Mountain Lions added two runs each in the sixth and seventh innings. Jace Wilson had a run-scoring single and Begora followed with a sacrifice fly. James Basham and Ford followed with back-to-back RBI doubles an inning later.
- Ryan Cross (2-0) went five innings to secure the win.
- YHC finished with 18 hits in the game. Colina had three hits, while Bray and Spell had two hits each.
- Stamps finished with 3 RBI, while Colina, Spell, Begora, and Wallace had 2 RBI apiece.
