YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Tehree Horn led the University of South Carolina-Aiken with 23 points as the Pacers held off No. 17 Young Harris College 73-69 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday (Jan. 21) afternoon at the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.
The Pacers improved to 13-5 overall and to 6-2 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 14-3 and 5-3. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Jan. 25) when they face its Blood Mountain rival University of North Georgia in a 7:30 p.m. league game in Dahlonega, Georgia.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Young Harris started fast as they jumped out to an 11-point lead (21-10) after Christian Schach sank a three-pointer with 13:33 remaining in the first half.
- USC Aiken rebounded from its early deficit to take a 42-40 lead at the half after Horn sank a three-pointer.
- The Pacers extended their lead to seven points (51-44) after Horn connected on a putback with 16:04 left.
- YHC reclaimed the lead at 60-58 on a Paul Hosey layup with 9:33 to go. A Hosey layup with 2:21 to play gave the Mountain Lions their final lead of the game at 69-68.
- Tyler Johnson's three-pointer gave USC Aiken the lead for good at 71-69 with 31 seconds left.
- The Mountain Lions had a chance to tie the game or take the lead, but turned the ball over on their next position.
- USCA added two free throws by Jalen McCoy to take a 73-69 lead with 13 seconds to go.
- Schach, who hit four three-pointers, led the Mountain Lions with 16 points, while Karl Chavis added 14 more. Eden Davis also finished in double figures with 10 points.
- Hosey finished with nine points.
- Turahn Thompson led the Mountain Lions with five rebounds, while six other players registered four apiece.
- USC Aiken edged the Mountain Lions 36-34 on the glass. YHC led 17-7 on second-chance points.
