MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Zyair Greene scored 32 points to lead Georgia College & State University past No. 17 Young Harris College 84-77 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday (Jan. 18) evening in the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats improved to 5-11 overall and to 1-6 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions slipped to 14-2 and 5-2. Young Harris returns home to the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center Saturday (Jan. 21) for a 3:30 p.m. PBC contest against the University of South Carolina-Aiken.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The game featured seven ties and six lead changes.
- The Bobcats led 38-34 at the half, but the Mountain Lions tied the game at 61 after Nate Dunlop connected on a three-pointer with 7:44 to play.
- Georgia College responded by scoring the next 10 points to take a 71-61 lead after an old-fashioned three-point play from Richard Crawford with 5:52 to go.
- The Mountain Lions battled back to get within a point (73-71) after two free throws from Josh Petteno with 97 seconds remaining.
- The Bobcats thwarted the YHC rally from the charity stripe as GC hit 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch. Georgia College went 18-of-27 from the free throw line, while the Mountain Lions were 9-of-16.
- Lenny Pradia led the Mountain Lions with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists.
- Dunlop finished with 17 points as he hit five three-pointers. He also added six rebounds and had four assists.
- Karl Chavis also finished in double figures with 10 points.
- The Mountain Lions outrebounded the Bobcats 45-34. Paul Hosey led the Mountain Lions with eight rebounds. YHC held a 42-26 margin in points in the paint.
