Chavis, Petteno leads No. 22 Young Harris over Flagler 89-84 in OT

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Josh Petteno scored nine of Young Harris College's 13 points in overtime as the No. 22 Mountain Lions defeated Flagler College 89-84 Saturday (Jan. 18) afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday (Jan. 18) afternoon at Flagler Gym.

The Mountain Lions improved to 14-1 overall and to 5-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Saints fell to 8-9 and 2-4. YHC wraps up their three-game road trip Wednesday (Jan. 18) with a visit to Milledgeville, Georgia, to tace Georgia College & State University in a 7:30 p.m. PBC contest.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Petteno finished with 19 points and seven rebounds.
  • Chavis led all scorers with 30 points and added 10 rebounds. Chavis, who scored 27 points earlier this week against Columbus State University, shot 13-of-20 from the field.
  • Lenny Pradia (13) and Nate Dunlop (11) also finished in double figures, while Dunlop pulled down nine rebounds. Paul Hosey added seven points and seven rebounds.
  • Young Harris got out to an early seven point lead (23-16) after Pradia swished a three-pointer with 9:39 left in the first half to cap a 9-0 run.
  • However, Flagler used an 8-0 run to open up a 40-30 lead 68 seconds before the half. 
  • Pradia hit two free throws with 13:36 left in the second half to give the Mountain Lions their first lead in the second half at 54-52.
  • Neither team enjoyed more than a five-point lead the rest of the half. Young Harris opened up a 76-71 lead after Pradia connected on a jumper with 37 seconds left, but Flagler sent the game into extra time after Kyle Young sank two free throws with a second left to tie the game at 76.
  • After Flagler sank two free throws 19 seconds into the overtime, Petteno hit a jumper and connected on a three-pointer on back-to-back possessions to give YHC a 81-78 lead with 3:38 to go.
  • A Chavis layup with 1:58 to play gave YHC an 83-78 lead. 
  • Flagler closed to within three points (85-82) with 28 seconds remaining, but the Mountain Lions secured the win as Dunlop and Petteno each hit two free throws.
  • YHC held a 51-36 advantage on the glass.
