GREENWOOD, S.C. | Morgan Curley and
Grace Young each homered as Young Harris College outlast Georgia Southwestern State University 8-6 in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament Saturday (May 7) afternoon at Doug Spears Field on the campus of Lander University.
The Mountain Lions improved to 23-20 and moves to the 10 a.m. semifinal Sunday (May 8) against top seed and national ranked No. 17 University of North Georgia., while the Hurricanes ended their season at 33-21.

NSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Curley led off the game with home run to center field to give YHC a 1-0 lead on her seventh long ball of 2022.
- The Mountain Lions tied the game at 2Â in the second on Karah Straub's RBI single to center field.
- YHC broke open the game with a five-run third inning. Ashley Autuori tied the game at 3 with a bases-loaded walk before Young connected on a grand slam down the left field line to give the Mountain Lions a 7-3 lead. It was Young's second homer of the season.
- The Mountain Lions added an insurance run in the sixth on a Georgia Southwestern throwing error.
- The Hurricanes, who left 13 runners on base, got as close as 8-6, but Sam Davis earned her fourth save of the season as she came in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and recorded the final two outs on a strikeout and a pop up.
- The Mountain Lions had seven hits. Three from Young and two more from Curley. Jess Jaruszewski and Straub accounted for the other hits.
- Jill Dixon (7-8) earned the win with 4.1 innings of relief.
