WINGATE, N.C. | The 2022 season came to a close for the No. 30 Young Harris College baseball team as they dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 5 Wingate University Saturday (May 21) evening in an elimination game in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional No. 2 at Ron Christopher Stadium/Plyler Field.
The No 7 seeded Mountain Lions ended their season at 39-19, while the No. 2 seeded Bulldogs improved to 48-9 and advance to Sunday's (May 22) 1 p.m. regional championship game against No. 10 Columbus State University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Wingate scored five times in the first inning and never looked back.
- Gehrig Christopher drove in five runs for the Bulldogs.
- Jackson Jones was the only YHC base runner as he singled through the left side in the second and reached on a walk in the fourth.
- Mason Herbert (4-4) took the loss for the Mountain Lions.
- Mitch Farris (7-1) earned the win for the Bulldogs, striking out 14 in the complete-game effort. Farris retired the final 17 batters.
- The 39 wins for the Mountain Lions are a program best.
- This was the second trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament in the past three seasons.
