YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College baseball team clinched the Peach Belt Conference series against Lander University with a 5-3 victory Saturday (April 23) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
Young Harris improved to 31-14 overall and 15-8 in the Peach Belt, while Lander fell to 20-24 and 9-13. The Mountain Lions and the Bearcats wrap up the series with a 1 p.m. first pitch Sunday (April 23), YHC will honor its seniors prior to the game at 12:50 p.m.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Noah Fitzgerald led the Mountain Lions with two hits and recorded one RBI.
- Rome Wallace hit a homer to center field -his 10th of the season and second in the series - in the fourth to give YHC its first run of the game and cut the Bearcat lead to two runs 3-1.
- YHC added another run in the sixth after Jackson Jones flew out to center and Fitzgerald came around to score on a Lander throwing error.
- The Mountain Lions took the lead for good in the seventh, and scored three runs on three back-to-back hit by pitches with the bases loaded.
- Wallace, Steven Spell, Mark Castle, and Aaron Copeland recorded one hit a piece.
- Nate Lamb pitched five innings and struck out eight batters.
- Dylan Beck (1-1) earned the win for the Mountain Lions.
- McLain Harris earned the save - his fifth of the season - and struck out three in two innings of scoreless relief.
