Young Harris splits PBC doubleheader against Flagler

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College softball team split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheaderr with Flagler College Saturday (April 2) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field.
 
The Saints won game one 13-2 in six innings and the Mountain Lions took the nightcap 7-5.
 
Young Harris improved to 16-15 overall and 7-8 in the PBC, while Flagler College fell to 19-16 and 5-7. The Mountain Lions return to action Tuesday (April 5) with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the University of Alabama in Huntsville at home. 
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE: 
 
GAME TWO
  • Jillian Vitamanti tied the game up at one in the second inning with a sacrifice groundout to second base that scored Trinity Aycock
  • Flagler scored three runs in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. 
  • YHC answered back in the bottom of the third with a two-run RBI single up the middle from Grace Young, and a single through the left side by Erin Chambliss to tie the game up at 4. 
  • Shea Bayreuther put the Mountain Lions up 5-4 with a solo home run – her sixth of the season – to center field in the fourth.
  • A Morgan Curley double to right center in the sixth scored Bayreuther to give YHC a 6-4 advantage.
  • Amber Divine gave the Mountain Lions its final run with a RBI single in the sixth that scored Karah Straub
  • The Mountain Lions totaled 13 hits. Young led with three, and Bayreuther, Curley, Divine, and Chambliss recorded two apiece.
  • Kylie Ferguson (5-4) earned the win in the circle for YHC. 
 
GAME ONE
  • Aycock led the Mountain Lions with two hits, while Bayreuther, Ashley Autuori, Young, and Divine had one hit each.
  • Young drove in the only YHC runs with a two-run home run to left center in the third inning.
  • Flagler College scored seven in the second inning, added one in the fifth, and five in the sixth to win the game. 
  • Jill Dixon (6-6) recorded the loss for YHC.
