HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Young Harris College baseball team fell short 14-13 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville Tuesday (April 19) afternoon at Charger Park.
The Mountain Lions fell to 28-14, while the Chargers improved to 21-21. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (April 20) with a 3 p.m. first pitch against Carson-Newman University at Zell B. Miller Field.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- A fast start gave UAH a 4-0 lead going into the second inning.
- The Mountain Lions answered with six runs in the second to give YHC a 6-4 lead. Jackson Jones, Steven Spell, Mark Castle, Jackson Kemp, Ethan Underwood, and Noah Fitzgerald each singled in the explosive YHC inning.
- UAH scored in every inning of the game. The Chargers added runs in the third, fourth, and fifth to take a 9-6 lead heading into the sixth.
- Logan Worley hit a leadoff single in the sixth and came around to score on a Charger error. Jones added a sacrifice fly to cut the UAH lead to one run 9-8.
- YHC added three runs in the seventh - an RBI each from Kemp and Worley, and Kyle Ayers scored on an error.
- The Mountain Lions scored one in the eighth and one in the ninth but fell short to the five runs UAH added in the sixth through the ninth innings.
- Young Harris out hit UAH 17-16.
- Worley, Fitzgerald, and Castle led with three hits. Underwood, Jones, and Kemp each had two, while Rome Wallace and Steven Spell had one hit apiece.
- McLain Harris (5-3) got the loss for YHC.
