Young Harris sweeps PBC doubleheader against Augusta

Ashley Autuori hits the game-winning homer to win game two 10-8

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College softball team swept the Peach Belt Conference doubleheaer against Augusta University Friday (April 15) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field. 

The Mountain Lions won game one 8-0 in five innings, and took the night cap 10-8 with a walk-off homerun from Ashley Autuori.

Young Harris improved to 20-16 overall and 11-9 in the Peach Belt, while Augusta fell to 13-24 and 2-15. The Mountain Lions and the Jaguars compete in the series finale on Senior Day Saturday (April 16) at 1 p.m. Young Harris will honor its seniors at 12:30 p.m.

GAME ONE: GAME TWO:
  • YHC trailed by two runs (10-8) going into the seventh. Vitamanti and Chappel hit back-to-back singles to start a YHC rally. Vitamanti came around to score on an Augusta throwing error and Shea Bayreuther scored Chappell on a hard hit double to tie the game up at 8.
  • Autuori hit a game winning homer over the center field fence to give the Mountain Lions the win and clinch the series. 
  • Young Harris connected on 16 hits; including multi-hit games from Chappell, Trinty Aycock, Jaruszewski, Amber Divine, and Vitamanti. Bayreuther, Curley, Autuori, and Chambliss each recorded one. 
  • Chappell stole her 28th base and leads the Peach Belt Conference in stolen bases.
  • Jill Dixon (6-7) earned the win for YHC. Dixon pitched three scoreless innings and struck out three.
