Young Harris wins series over Columbus State with 13-2 victory

Curly, Chappell, and Autuori each homer in run rule

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Morgan Curley, Ashley Autuori, and Kenzie Chappell each homer as the Young Harris College offense exploded for a 13-2 Peach Belt Conference softball victory in five innings over Columbus State University to win the series Sunday (April 10) afternoon at Cougar Field.
 
Young Harris improved to 18-16 overall and 9-9 in the Peach Belt, while Columbus State fell to 19-19 and 9-6. YHC returns to action Friday (April 15) with a 3 p.m. first pitch against Augusta University at the YHC Softball Field. 
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Mountain Lions took a five-run lead in the first inning off five hits.
  • Chappell led off the first with a single to right center, Curley added an RBI single up the middle, Jess Jaruszewski roped a two-run RBI double, and Erin Chambliss added the final two YHC runs of the inning with a single to right field. 
  • Curley went her third consecutive game with a home run - her fifth of the season -  to center field to give YHC a 6-0 lead in the second.
  • Chappell slapped a home run to right field - her second of the season - in the third to give the Mountain Lions a 8-1 lead.
  • Autuori added a two-run homer to center in the fourth to extend the lead to 10-1.
  • Chambliss and Chappell each recorded an RBI in the fourth inning to give the Mountain Lions a 12-1 lead and Jaruszewski added the final YHC run with a single up the middle in the fifth.
  • YHC totaled 14 hits. Chappell, Autuori, and Chambliss led with three each, Curley and Jaruszewski each had two apiece and Trinity Aycock connected on one. 
  • Kylie Ferguson (6-5) earned the win in the circle. Ferguson pitched 3.2 innings and held the Cougar offense to four hits and struck out one. 
  • Jill Dixon pitched in relief for YHC. Dixon went 1.1 innings and gave up no hits to CSU.
