YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College softball team rallied for a 6-1 Peach Belt Conference victory in game one of the three-game series against Flagler College Friday (April 1) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field.
Young Harris improved to 15-14 overall and 6-7 in the Peach Belt, while Flagler fell to 18-15 and 4-6. The Mountain Lions and the Saints continue the series Saturday (April 2) with a 1 p.m. doubleheader. The doubleheader will be a Bark in the Park at the YHC Softball Field, the first 25 dogs to enter the gates at noon will receive a free Young Harris softball bandana.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Kylie Ferguson (4-4) pitched a complete game and earned the win for the Mountain Lions. Ferguson held the Saints offense to six hits and struck out five.
- Alyssa Velez gave Flagler its lone run of the game with a solo home run to left field in the second inning.
- The Saints held a 1-0 lead until the fifth when the YHC offense sparked a six-run inning.
- Amber Divine led off the inning with an infield single, followed by a Saints throwing error that allowed Erin Chambliss to reach safely on a sacrifice bunt. Jillian Vitamanti reached on an infield single, and Kenzie Chappell added a two-run RBI double that scored Divine and Chambliss which gave YHC the 2-1 advantage.
- Shea Bayreuther recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly and Ashley Autuori added the final YHC runs with a two-run home run to left field – her fourth of the season-.
- YHC collected seven hits. Vitamanti recorded two, while Chappell, Morgan Curley, Autuori, Divine, and Chambliss each had one apiece.
