YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College softball team picked up an 8-4 victory over Southern Wesleyan University Tuesday (March 8) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field.
The second game of the planned doubleheader was canceled due to rain. Young Harris improved to 8-9 overall, while Southern Wesleyan fell to 1-12. The Mountain Lions return to action Friday (March 11) evening in Milledgeville, Georgia, with a 5 p.m. Peach Belt Conference matchup against Georgia College.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Trellis Whaley drove in five of the eight runs for YHC. Whaley was 2-for-3 at the plate. She had a two-run double in the fifth and added a three-run homer to center field an inning later. It was her first homer of the year..
- Kenzie Chappell led with three hits, while Ashley Autuori, Erin Chambliss, Hanna Miller, and Hannah Miller each had one.
- Jill Dixon (3-4) picked up the YHC win. Dixon pitched 6.0 innings in relief, allowing three hits and struck out six.
- Southern Wesleyan scored four runs, including a two-run home run from Emma Jo Wolfe in the second inning to give the Warriors a 4-1 lead.
- YHC rallied in the fifth inning and tied the game up at four off back-to-back walks from Grace Young and Morgan Curley and doubles from Whaley and Hannah Miller.
- YHC drew seven walks as a team.
