YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Gunnar Fagerstrom scored six goals, but the Young Harris College men's lacrosse came up short in a 19-17 non-conference loss to Chowan University Saturday (March 5) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions remained winless in seven tries, while the Hawks improved to 2-3. YHC returns to action March 16 when they travel to Banner Elk, North Carolina, for a 5 p.m. match against Lees-McRae College.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- In addition to Fagerstrom, Wyatt Peek scored three goals, while Tommy Chriszt, Jeremy Rice and Kieren Isbister each accounted for two goals each. Malcolm Henke and Tanner Redmon also found the back of the net.
- Chriszt collected three assists, while Peek had two. Nic Baker, Jacob Haas and Lukus Olsen had one each.
- Jaxon Martin and Eric George led Chowan with six goals apiece.
- Chowan opened up a 14-8 lead with 5:17 left after a Martin goal with 5:17 left in the third quarter.
- Young Harris got three unanswered goals from Fagerstrom, Redmon and Chriszt to close out the third quarter to pull within three goals at 14-11.
- The Hawks expanded their lead to five goals at 19-14 with 1:53 to play, but the Mountain Lions scored three goals - one each from Fagerstrom, Henke and Peek - in the final minute to close within two at 19-17.
- Chowan held a 42-40 advantage on shots, 36-32 edge on ground balls.
- Haas, who had 23 face-off wins, led YHC with 12 ground balls, while Isbister had five and Alex Buchanan collected four.
- Dylan Wilbur recorded 10 saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
