BANNER ELK, N.C. | Ryan Bird's goal 86 seconds into overtime gave Lees-McRae College a 13-12 overtime victory over Young Harris College in a non-conference men's lacrosse match Wednesday (March 16) afternoon at Tate Field.
The Bobcats improved to 2-5, while the Mountain Lions remained winless in eight tries. YHC returns to action next Wednesday (March 23) when they travel to Emmanuel (Ga.) College for a 4 p.m. match in Franklin Springs, Georgia.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The overtime goal thwarted a brilliant comeback by the Mountain Lions to force the extra time. YHC scored twice in the final 15 seconds of regulation to extend the match. Gunnar Fagerstrom scored with 15 seconds left before Jeremy Rice's goal with one tick left off a Wyatt Peek assist tied the match at 12.
- Neither team led by more than two goals.
- Peek and Tommy Chriszt each scored three goals, while Fagerstrom added two. Jacob Haas, Nic Baker, Lukus Olson and Rice each found the back of the net once.
- Peek and Chriszt distributed two assists each, while Kieran Isbister had one.
- Haas won 19-of-26 face-offs, which is fifth most in a game for the Mountain Lions. He also scooped up a program-record 16 ground balls, surpassing the previous record of 15.
- Isbister corralled seven ground balls, while Ben Soenen had four as Young Harris held 40-32 edge.
- Isbister registered five caused turnovers, while Soenen had four.
- Dylan Wilbur tallied 12 saves between the pipes for Mountain Lions.
