Mountain Lions sweep doubleheader against Shorter in walk-off fashion

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College softball team swept the midweek doubleheader against Shorter University Tuesday (March 22) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field. 
 
Young Harris won the first game 13-4 in six innings, and took the nightcap 6-5. A two-run single by Amber Divine in the sixth got the run rule in game one, and back-to-back home runs from Morgan Curley and Shea Bayreuther in the seventh gave YHC the walk-off win in game two.
 
The Mountain Lions improved to 15-11 while the Hawks fell to 4-24. Young Harris returns to action in the Battle of Blood Mountain Saturday (March 26) with a 1 p.m. Peach Belt Conference doubleheader in Dahlonega, Georgia,  against No. 12-ranked  University of North Georgia.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
 
GAME 1 
  • Divine ended game one early with a two-run RBI single down the left field line to give YHC the run rule 13-4 in the sixth inning. 
  • Young Harris scored 13 runs on 13 hits in the win. Eight Mountain Lions recorded one hit including multi-hit games from Curley, Trinity Aycock, Ashley Autuori, and Divine. 
  • Bayreuther added her fourth home run of the season with a solo shot to right center field in the sixth to give the Mountain Lions a 11-4 lead. 
  • Curley, Grace Young, and Autuori all recorded doubles; Curley drove two. 
  • Autuori was 3-for-3 in the game and led YHC with four RBI. 
  • Jill Dixon (5-6) earned the win. Dixon pitched six innings, allowed seven hits and struck out nine batters faced.
GAME 2 
  • Back-to-back home runs from Curley and Bayreuther gave the Mountain Lions the picture perfect walk-off win of the day. Curley hit the two-run home run to tie it up at five and Bayreuther added the solo long ball – her second of the day and fifth of the season - to center field to take the win. 
  • YHC totaled nine hits; including hits from Kenzie Chappell, Jillian Vitamanti, Bayreuther, Aycock, Young, and Erin Chambliss.
  • Curley led the Mountain Lions with three hits while Aycock connected on two. 
  • Sam Davis (4-2) recorded the win on the mound.
