DAHLONEGA, Ga. | The Young Harris College softball team dropped a doubleheader to 12th-ranked University of North Georgia in Saturday (March 26) afternoon's Peach Belt Conference matchup.
YHC fell 12-4 in game one in five innings, and lost game two 12-3 in six innings.
Young Harris fell to 14-13 overall and 5-6 in the PBC, while North Georgia improved to 25-10 and 8-2. The Mountain Lions and the Nighthawks wrap up the three-game series Sunday (March 27) with a noon first pitch.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
GAME ONE
- Shea Bayreuther, Grace Young, and Ashley Autuori led the Mountain Lions with one hit apiece.
- UNG led 8-0 going into the third inning.
- Autuori sparked the four-run third inning with a single to left and came around to score off a ground ball from Jillian Vitamanti to get a run on the board for YHC. Bayreuther cleared the bases with a two out double to bring in Morgan Curley, Kenzie Chappell, and Amber Divine and cut the deficit to 8-4.
- The Nighthawks answered with two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one in the seventh to earn the run rule 12-4 in five innings.
- Sam Davis recorded the loss for YHC.
GAME TWO
- YHC took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after a double from Autuori scored Curley and Vitamanti.
- The Mountain Lions held the 2-0 lead through the fourth inning, but a seven-run Nighthawk fifth gave UNG all the runs it would need. North Georgia added five runs in the sixth to run rule in six innings.
- Autuori drove in the final YHC run in the fifth with a single up the middle that scored Curley.
- Brookelyn Sweeney got the loss for Young Harris.
