YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | No. 13-ranked Lander University picked up a 6-1 Peach Belt Conference men's tennis victory over Young Harris College Sunday (March 20) afternoon at the Bob and Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Bearcats improved to 11-2 overall and to 1-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-7 and 0-1. The Mountain Lions will return to action next Sunday (March 27) with a noon PBC match against Augusta University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point. Rodrigo Mendoza and Chimo Minguez Ribera picked up a 6-2 win at the second flight, while Pieke Bouman and Romeo Luque got the 6-3 win in the third flight.
- The Bearcats won all six singles matches, although three matches - Bouman (No. 1), Luque (No. 5) and Eric DelValle (No. 6) - were decided in three sets. Bouman forced the deciding set by winning the second set 6-4. Luque claimed a 6-1 win in set one before Lander rallied to claim that match. DelValle also won his first set 6-3 and dropped the second and third sets in tiebreakers.
