YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College baseball team fell to the University of Southern Indiana 19-6 Friday (Feb. 18) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
Southern Indiana improved to 1-0, while Young Harris fell to 6-2. The Mountain Lions continue the three-game series against the Screaming Eagles Saturday (Feb. 20) with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The Screaming Eagles got ahead 3-0 in the first inning. Lucas McNew's double and Adam Wildeman's single up the middle were the two big hits.
- Chad Brown took the loss (0-2) pitched 3.1 innings, allowing four hits, four walks and struck out eight.
- Young Harris trailed 11-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, but came back to score five runs off a leadoff double by Steven Spell that started a Mountain Lion rally of three runs. Jackson Kemp, Mark Castle, and Kyle Ayers singled in the inning, while Logan Worley drove in two off a double to left field and Noah Fitzgerald drove in one off a double to right.
- The Mountain Lions added one run in the sixth inning off Worley's sacrifice fly out, but the Screaming Eagles went on to score eight unanswered runs.
- Young Harris had 10 hits, including two from Spell and Kemp.
