FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. | Young Harris College dropped a softball doubleheader to Emmanuel (Ga.) College Wednesday (Feb. 16) afternoon.
The Lions won the opener 5-2 before rallying to take the nightcap 5-4.
Emmanuel improved to 7-3, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-5. YHC returns to action Feb. 26 when they travel to Greeneville, Tenn., to take part in the Pioneer Classic.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Game 1
- Young Harris took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Kenzie Chappell led off with a single and moved over to third on a flyout and then stole home.
- After Emmanuel scored twice in its half of the fourth, YHC tied the game at 2 on Erin Chambliss' home run to left-center field.
- The Lions took the lead with a three-run fifth.
- Chappell had two of the six hits for the Mountain Lions.
- Jill Dixon (2-2) took the loss for YHC.
Game 2
- The Mountain Lions took an early 3-0 lead. Hannah Miller hit a two-run homer to center field in the second before Chappell had an RBI single to left in the fourth.
- Emmanuel tied the game at 3 with three runs in the fourth inning.
- Young Harris retook the lead at 4-3 on Trellis Whaley's RBI single in the top of the sixth, but the Lions won the game with Chloe Nadler's two-run single to center field in the bottom half.
- Amber Divine (0-1) took the loss in relief.
- The Mountain Lions had 11 hits in the nightcap with Chappell collecting three of them.
