DAHLONEGA, Ga. | Carl Cleveland and
Karl Chavis combined for 43 points as the Young Harris College men's basketball team picked up a 84-79 Peach Belt Conference victory over the University of North Georgia Wednesday (Feb. 16) evening at the UNG Convocation Center.
Young Harris improved to 6-19 overall and 3-13 in the Peach Belt, while the Nighthawks fell to 13-11 and 6-9. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Feb. 19) at the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center with a 3:30 p.m. Peach Belt contest against the University of South Carolina-Aiken. The Mountain Lions will honor its seniors prior to the game
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Cleveland led the Mountain Lions with 22 points, including three three-pointers and grabbed nine rebounds..
- Chavis added 21 points and nine rebounds. Lenny Pradia added 17 points with six assists and Paul Hosey had 10.
- Malik Hardy and Zach Brown led the Nighthawk offense with 35 combined points.
- Young Harris led by three points (37-34) at the half.
- North Georgia took a 60-52 lead after a Hardy three-pointer with 10:39 remaining, but the Mountain Lions reeled off nine unanswered points to take a 61-60 lead on an Eden Davis layup two minutes later.
- After the Nighthawks briefly reclaimed the lead, the Mountain Lions took the lead for good at 64-62 after an old-fashioned three-point play with 7:04 to play.
- Young Harris had its biggest lead of the second half (80-71) after a Cleveland triple with 50 seconds left..
- The Nighthawks outrebounded the Mountain Lions 41-38 in rebounds, but trailed 42-30 in points scored from the paint.
