ALBERTVILLE, Ala. | The Young Harris College softball team split their final two games at the Charger Chillout Sunday (Feb. 13) afternoon at Sand Mountain Park.
The Mountain Lions, who improved to 5-3, defeated Christian Brothers University 6-5 in their first game before Delta State University rallied for a 4-3 decision in the second contest. Young Harris will travel to Franklin Springs, Georgia, for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday (Feb. 16) against Emmanuel (Ga.,) College.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Christian Brothers
- Young Harris jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first three innings.
- Grace Young gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a double through the right side.
- Kenzie Chappell added a two-run triple through the left side in the second before Erin Chambliss pushed across a run with a single center an inning later.
- After the Buccaneers scored three runs in the top of the fourth, Ashley Autuori knocked in two runs on a fourth inning triple to left-center field.
- Brookelyn Sweeney (1-0) earned the win for YHC, while Sam Davis earned the save.Â
Delta State
- Young put the Mountain Lions up 1-0 in the top of the first after a RBI double to left field.
- Delta State scored twice in the fourth before YHC retook the lead at 3-2 after two runs in the top of the sixth. Trellis Whaley tied the game at 2 on her run-scoring double down the left field line. YHC took the lead when Whaley scored on a wild pitch.
- The Statesman rallied for the win in the bottom of the inning as they scored twice off YHC starter Kylie Ferguson (1-1).
- Young had two of the four YHC hits.
