YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Karl Chavis scored 24 points, but No. 18 Augusta University pulled away from Young Harris College 102-74 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday (Feb. 12) afternoon at the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.
The Jaguars improved to 21-3 overall and to 11-3 in the league, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-19 and 2-13. Young Harris hits the road for the final time as they travel across Blood Mountain for a 7:30 p.m. PBC contest Wednesday (Feb. 16) in Dahlonega, Georgia.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Chavis led the Mountain Lions with 24 points, while Josh Petteno (13) and Lenny Pradia (10) also scored in double figures.
- Seth McCoy connected on a three-pointer with 14:12 in the first half to give him 217 three-pointers in his YHC career, surpassing C.J. Wilson's previous mark of 216.
- Augusta led by as many as 22 points (39-22) in the first half after Miguel Arnold hit a three-pointer with 7:20 left. Augusta hit 68 percent (17-of-25) from behind the 3-point line. Arnold was 7-of-11 from long distance.
- YHC pulled within eight (43-38) at the intermission and got as close as four points (56-52) after Carl Cleveland sank a three-pointer with 14:17 to go.
- Augusta took control of the game with a 25-6 run over the next seven minutes to take a 87-63 lead after Troy Cracknell hit a three-pointer.
- The Jaguars had 31 assists on 36 baskets and held a 39-24 advantage on the glass.
- Paul Hosey led YHC with six rebounds, while Chavis pulled down five.
