Mountain Lions flex bats, score 35 runs in first two games at Charger Chillout

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. | The Young Harris College softball team flexed their bats on the opening day of the Charger Chillout Friday hosted by the University of Alabama in Huntsville (Feb. 11) afternoon at Sand Mountain Park.

The Mountain Lions shut out Kentucky Wesleyan University 23-0 in five innings in the opener before Young Harris blanked Miles College 12-0 in five innings in the nightcap.

Young Harris improved to 2-2. The Mountain Lions play two more games at the Charger Chillout Saturday (Feb. 12). YHC faces Mississippi College at 1 p.m. Central time before facing the University of West Alabama at 3:30 p.m.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

Kentucky Wesleyan:
  • Young Harris scored in every inning, including a 15-run fifth inning as the Mountain Lions sent 11 batters to the plate.
  • The 23 runs posted by the Mountain Lions were the second most in the program history.
  • YHC set new program single-game highs in doubles (seven) and most RBI (22).
  • The 15 runs in an inning were the most for YHC, surpassing the 14 the Mountain Lions tallied in the first inning against Tennessee Temple University in 2012.
  • Five different YHC players had at least two hits, including Morgan Curley and Grace Young, who collected four hits each. Young smashed three doubles and drove in five runs, while Curley posted two doubles and had 2 RBI.
  • Shea Bayreuther had two hits and drove in five runs. Her grand slam highlighted the huge fifth inning.
  • Trinity Aycock and Kenzie Chappell also had two hits for the Mountain Lions. Chappell had a double and drove in two runs. Ashley Autuori accounted for the double for YHC.
  • Jill Dixon (1-1) scattered four hits and struck out five in the complete-game victory.
MIles:
  • The Mountain Lions scored in every inning, but the fourth.
  • Six of the 11 YHC went for extra bases - five doubles and a triple.
  • Chappell and Curley led the hit parade with three hits. Curley had a triple, while Chappell had a double.
  • Autuori had two doubles and drove in three runs. Curley and Young each drove in two runs.
  • Trellis Whaley and Erin Chambliss each had a double for the Mountain Lions.
  • Kylie Ferguson (1-0) earned the complete-game win as she scattered seven hits and struck out eight.
