WISE, Va. | Lenny Pradia scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the second half as the Young Harris College men's basketball team rallied for an 86-76 non-conference victory over The University of Virginia's College at Wise Sunday (Dec. 4) afternoon at the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
The Mountain Lions are off to their best start in the program's history at 6-0, while the Cavaliers suffered their first lost of the season and fell to 6-1. Young Harris breaks for final exams and returns to action Saturday (Dec. 10) when they open up its Peach Belt Conference schedule with a 3:30 p.m. home contest against Georgia College & State University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- UVA Wise, which led 39-35 at the half, expanded its lead to 14 points (55-41) with 15:17 remaining in the game as Luke Lawson's three-pointer culminated a 16-6 run by the Cavaliers.
- The Mountain Lions got back into the game as they responded with a 16-4 run to slice the UVA Wise lead to two points (61-59) after Pradia sank two free throws with 8:07 to play.
- UVA Wise pushed its lead back to five points (69-64), but the Mountain Lions wiped out that with a 10-0 run that resulted in YHC taking a 74-69 lead after Josh Petteno hit two free throws with 2:06 to play. Petteno scored the final five points of the decisive run.
- The Mountain Lions sealed the game from the free throw line as they sank 7-of-8 free throw in the final 64 seconds. YHC shot 78.6 percent (22-of-28) from the charity stripe in the game.
- Pradia scored his points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and he dished out seven assists.
- Petteno, who sank three three-pointers, added 15 points, while Christian Schach, who also made three three-pointers, added 11 more.
- Karl Chavis and Nate Dunlop also finished in double figures with 10 points.
- Turahn Thompson and Kennedy Willis each contributed eight points and seven rebounds.
- The Mountain Lions outrebounded the Cavaliers 35-23, including a 10-2 margin on the offensive glass. YHC had a 12-4 advantage in second-chance points.
