Young Harris outlasts Georgia College 75-73 in double OT

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Karl Chavis and Turahn Thompson combined for 34 points and 18 rebounds as Young Harris College outlasted Georgia College & State University 75-73 in double overtime in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday (Dec. 10) afternoon at the Harp Recreation and Commencement Center.

The Mountain Lions remained unbeaten at 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the PBC, while the Bobcats fell to 4-4 and 0-1. Young Harris returns to action Monday (Dec. 12) with an 11 a.m. Education Day game against PBC-foe Flagler College.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The game featured 15 lead changes and nine ties.
  • The Mountain Lions overcame a four-point deficit (62-58) with 47 seconds remaining, but sent the game into overtime when Christian Schach sank a three-pointer from the left corner with 7.1 seconds left to tie the game at 63.
  • Young Harris sent the game into a second OT when Nate Dunlop banked in a 22-foot jumper with 4.9 seconds to tie the game at 69.
  • The lead changed hands five times in the second extra period until Dunlop hit a jumper with 1:42 left that gave Young Harris a 74-73 lead. Dunlop added a free throw with 11 seconds left to extend the lead to 75-73. Georgia College had one last chance to send the game into a third overtime, but Luke Chism's shot missed as the horn sounded.
  • Chavis led the Mountain Lions with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Thompson chipped in a career-high 16 points and eight rebounds.
  • Petteno added 12 points and five rebounds for YHC, while Dunlop and Lenny Pradia added eight points apiece. Pradia grabbed seven rebounds and contributed three assists and three steals.
  • The Mountain Lions converted 23-of-29 free throws (79.3 percent).
