FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. | Josh Petteno scored 26 points as Young Harris College outlasted Chowan University 90-86 in the season opener for both men's basketball teams Friday (Nov. 11) evening inside the Shaw Athletic Center.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-0 and will next face Emmanuel (Ga.) College in a 4 p.m. road game Saturday (Nov. 12). The Hawks fell to 0-1.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Petteno scored his 26 points - one of his career high - as he was 6-of-11 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from long distance. He also was a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe.
- Nate Dunlop in his first game in a YHC uniform added 18 points, five rebounds and three assists.
- Lenny Pradia and Karl Chavis each chipped in 10 points. Pradia added four assists and four rebounds, while Chavis grabbed three rebounds.
- The game was a see-saw affair with 21 lead changes and 12 ties.
- With Chowan holding an 86-85 lead, Petteno drilled three free throws with 26 seconds remaining to give the Mountain Lions for good at 88-86.
- The Hawks tried to tie the game, but Chavis blocked Isaac Hippolyte's jumper in the paint with 12 seconds left and Pradia grabbed the loose rebound. Pradia, who was fouled on the play, sank both free throws to give YHC a 90-86 lead with six seconds to play.
- YHC went 27-of-34 from the free throw line, while the Hawks were 11-of-14.
- The Mountain Lions outrebounded Chowan 31-20.
