AMERICUS, Ga. | Anterrious Rhyan scored a career-high 19 points and three other Young Harris College players scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as Georgia Southwestern State University defeated the Mountain Lions 86-76 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Monday (Jan. 24) evening at the Storm Dome.
The Hurricanes improved to 6-10 overall and to 2-6 in the league, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-15 and remained winless in the Peach Belt in nine tries. Young Harris will host its Blood Mountain rival University of North Georgia in a 7:30 p.m. Purple Out game Wednesday (Jan. 26) inside the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Young Harris opened the game by scoring the first five points on back-to-back baskets from Karl Chavis and a free throw by Carl Cleveland.
- Georgia Southwestern responded by scoring the next 10 minutes and opened up a 10-5 lead with 16 minutes left after a Kevin Kone basket., The last eight points in the GSW run were scored by Kone.
- The Mountain Lions got as close as 12-11 on two free throws by Cleveland, but the Hurricanes never would surrender the lead.
- Cleveland added 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds for YHC, while Chavid added 14 points and six rebounds.
- Lenny Pradia finished in double figures with 13 points, while Caleb Towns led Young Harris with nine rebounds.
