Box Score MELBOURNE, Fla. | Thirteenth-ranked Florida Institute of Technology scored four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter as the Panthers rallied for a 16-14 men's lacrosse victory over Young Harris College Friday (Feb. 5) evening at Panthers Stadium.
The Panthers improved to 1-0 while the Mountain Lions fell to 0-1. Young Harris returns to action Sunday (Feb. 7) with a noon contest against Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.
Matty Ledon gave the Mountain Lions a 13-11 lead when he scored a man-down goal with 12:34 remaining in the game off a
Benji Lapinski assist. Florida Tech took a 15-13 lead on four unanswered goals, including two from Cody Martin, with 2:21 left. Young Harris got a goal from
Michael Gernatt a minute later to pull the Mountain Lions within 15-14, but Charlie Morrisette added an insurance goal for the Panthers with 32 seconds remaining.
The match went back and forth between the two teams as they were tied at 7 at halftime and were deadlocked at 10 after the third quarter.
Gernatt led the Mountain Lions with four goals while
Bruce Silk,
Jayden Campbell,
Garrett Blake and Ledon has two apiece.
Chandler Bradley and
Zach Stephenson had one each. Stephenson and
Zac Barrett each won six face-offs for Young Harris, while Ledon, Stephenson and Barrett each scooped up three ground balls.
Mason King stopped 12 shots in the YHC goal.
