YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College women's soccer team continued its strong start to Conference Carolinas play with a 4-0 shutout victory over King University on Saturday (Sept. 12) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while the Tornado fell to 2-3 and 1-1. YHC returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 16) afternoon when it travels to Rome, Georgia to face Shorter University. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
Young Harris struck first in the 11th minute when Alessandra Brown found the back of the net off an assist from Betsy Bu, giving the Mountain Lions a 1-0 advantage they carried into halftime.
The Mountain Lions broke the match open after the break. Faith Niebrugge doubled the lead in the 53rd minute off an assist from Sophia de Amorim Sousa before Brown scored her second goal of the match in the 72nd minute, with an assist from Kenna Bothe. Bothe then capped the scoring in the 85th minute off de Amorim Sousa's second assist of the match.
Young Harris controlled the attack, outshooting King 17-6 with 10 shots on goal. Brown led the way with two goals, while Bothe finished with a goal and an assist. De Amorim Sousa added two assists.
Emily Jantz played all 90 minutes in goal for the Mountain Lions, making four saves to secure the clean sheet.
