FLORENCE, S.C. | The Young Harris College volleyball team opened Conference Carolinas play Friday (Sept. 11) evening with a 3-1 loss to Francis Marion University at the Smith University Center.
The Patriots improved to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Mountain Lions fell to 6-2 and 0-1. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Sept. 12) afternoon when it faces the University of North Carolina Pembroke at 2 p.m.
The Mountain Lions came out strong, taking the opening set 25-17 before the Patriots responded and won the next three frames, 25-16, 25-20 and 25-15.
Young Harris finished the match with 34 kills, eight service aces and eight blocks.
Lauren DeSilets and
Mary Margaret Wilson led the Mountain Lion attack with eight kills apiece. Wilson also recorded a match-high 21 digs.
Lexie Martin added 12 digs and three service aces, while
Alexa Berry led Young Harris with five blocks.
Lyza Thigpen finished with 14 assists and added two service aces.
