Young Harris Women's Tennis Sweep Weekend with Wins Over Shorter and King

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College women's tennis team continued its strong season with a pair of wins over the weekend, defeating Shorter 5-2 on Friday and sweeping King 7-0 on Saturday to improve to 14-5 overall.

Match One: Young Harris 5, Shorter 2

The Mountain Lions secured the doubles point with a clean sweep and followed with four singles victories to take down the Hawks on the road.

Futaba Saito and Maud Scholten led the way at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 win, while Tuva Asplund and Callie Stanfield edged a tight 7-6 victory at No. 2. Holly Ashford and Viviana Gomez completed the sweep at No. 3 with a dominant 6-1 performance.

In singles play, Saito controlled the top court with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1. Ashford followed with a shutout performance at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0), while Gomez secured a straight-set win at No. 5 (6-4, 6-2). Stanfield closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

Shorter picked up points at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

Young Harris returned home and delivered a dominant sweep over King, winning all three doubles matches and all six singles courts.

Saito and Scholten opened doubles play with a 6-1 win at No. 1, while Lexie Gillespie and Stanfield followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 2. Ashford and Gomez completed the sweep with a 6-1 win at No. 3.

In singles, Saito rolled at No. 1 (6-1, 6-0), while Scholten followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2. Ashford controlled No. 3 (6-2, 6-1), and Gomez added a straight-set win at No. 4 (6-1, 6-3).

Stanfield dominated at No. 5 (6-0, 6-1), and Gillespie capped the sweep at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
