YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College women's tennis delivered a dominant Senior Day performance, sweeping Emmanuel University 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Bob and Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.
Prior to the match, the Mountain Lions recognized seniors Callie Stanfield and Tuva Asplund, along with assistant coach Holden Hall and manager Cole Santos for their contributions to the program.
Young Harris took control early by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Futaba Saito and Maud Scholten rolled to a 6-0 victory at the top spot, while Holly Ashford and Viviana Gomez earned a win by default at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the Mountain Lions swept all six courts to complete the shutout. Saito battled to a hard-fought three-set win at No. 1, taking the match in a super tiebreak 4-6, 6-1, 11-9. Scholten added a straight-set win at No. 2, while Tuva Asplund secured a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Viviana Gomez cruised at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-1 win, and Callie Stanfield earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5. Lexie Gillespie completed the sweep with a win by default at No. 6 singles.
With the win, the Mountain Lions improve to 15-5 overall on the season.
