MARS HILL, N.C. | The Young Harris College women's tennis team delivered a strong performance on Thursday afternoon (Mar. 5), defeating Mars Hill University 6-1 at the Hart Tennis Center.
The Mountain Lions controlled the match early, sweeping all three doubles courts to secure the doubles point. Holly Ashford and Futaba Saito earned a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while Callie Stanfield and Maud Scholten dominated 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. Young Harris also claimed the No. 3 doubles position by default.
Young Harris carried that momentum into singles play, winning four courts to seal the team victory. Maud Scholten led the way with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and was named Player of the Game for her performance. Viviana Gomez picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles, while Callie Stanfield cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. Lexie Gillespie also earned a straight-set victory with a 6-0, 6-0 result at No. 5 singles, and Isabella Ezeta secured the No. 6 singles point by default.
