YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College senior Carl Cleveland has been named the D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year and a First Team All-Southeast Region selection following a historic season for the Mountain Lions.

Cleveland, the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and the Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Championship Most Valuable Player, helped lead Young Harris to a 22-win season and the program's first Conference Carolinas Championship under head coach Jeremy Currier. The Mountain Lions are currently competing in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament.

Cleveland delivered the most dominant season in program history. The senior ranks second in the Southeast Region and eighth in NCAA Division II with 15 double-doubles, trailing only Randolph.

Offensively, Cleveland leads the Southeast Region and ranks sixth in the nation with 243 made field goals. His 191 made free throws rank fourth in the region and eighth nationally.

Cleveland also leads the Southeast Region and ranks second in NCAA Division II with a scoring average of 26.4 points per game. In addition, he ranks fifth in the region with an average of 8.5 rebounds per game.

During the season, Cleveland was named the NABC/D2CCA National Player of the Week on January 6 and earned Conference Carolinas Player of the Week honors twice while also being named the league's Defensive Player of the Week once.

Cleveland's regional honor caps a remarkable season for the Mountain Lions and further cements his place among the top players in NCAA Division II men's basketball.
