SUMTER, S.C. | The Mountain Lions Women's Tennis team took down the Patriots of Francis Marion University on Thursday (Apr. 24) afternoon/Friday (Apr. 25) morning at the Palmetto Tennis Center. Young Harris secured the doubles point to kick-off their Conference Carolinas Tournament run, before a weather delay halted tournament play. The Mountain Lions returned and battled hard in singles to earn the long-winded victory.  

 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• The combo of Simone Mercier and Futaba Saito took down FMU's #1 doubles unit, winning handedly, 6-1. 

• Andreia Semeano and Callie Stanfield secured the doubles point for the Mountain Lions, earning a 7-5 win on court three. 

• A rain delay halted the match shortly into singles play for the remainder of Thursday, before the match was resumed early Friday morning. 

• The Mountain Lions did not skip a beat during the delay, as Andreia Semeano took down her opponent (6-1 & 6-2) on court five to put YH up 2-0. 

• Futaba Saito earned the third point of the match for YH, defeating her opponent 6-1 in set one, before Gomez of FMU retired during set two. 

• Maud Scholten clinched the overall match for Young Harris, taking down Patriots player Huerta (7-5 & 6-1), earning the straight sweep over Francis Marion. 

UP NEXT: 
With the 4-0 win over FMU, YH advances to the Quarterfinals, where they will face the Bulldogs of Barton College (No. 3) at 2:00 p.m. on Friday (Apr. 25).
