YOUNG HARRIS, GA. Young Harris fought a tough battle in both games this afternoon, ultimately dropping both games to the Pioneers of Tusculum University (Feb 27
th).
The Mountain Lions move to 7-8 overall and the Trojans move to 19-1 on the 2025 season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Game 1:
- Young Harris dropped game one to Tusculum with a final score of 14-5.
- The Pioneers struck first in their initial go around. Brooke Smith, Ellie Alvarez, and Gabi Nicholson each picked up an RBI.
- Gracie Hughes continued her hot streak at the plate; the Mountain Lions first run can be credited to Hughes' RBI single through the right side.
- Alyssa Barbrick blasted one over the fence in left to tack on two in the third for TU.
- The fourth inning consisted of some defensive trouble for the Mountain Lions, which created scoring opportunities for the Pioneers who took the lead 8-4.
- Grace Young singled to left file to bring in Avery Rein in Young Harris' half of the fourth.
- TU's Natalie Spaitis was granted the win and Dani Beckham the save.
- Tusculum put the bat on the ball once again in the sixth, scoring four more runs.
- Shelby Duncan finished 2-3 on the day with three RBIs.
Game 2:
- The Mountain Lions fell just short to the Pioneers with a final score of 9-7.
- The first four innings held the action at the plate for both sides.
- TU started strong in the first with a 4-0 lead.
- Young Harris responded well at the plate. Grace Young (2-4), Gracie Hughes (2-4), Mallory Clark, and Jordan Morris all contributed to this effort with RBIs.
- Two home runs and an Ellie Alvarez RBI single added four for the Pioneers in the second inning.
- Jordan Morris made contact once again at the plate with an RBI double to right center in the third. In the following inning, Grace Young doubled to right center to bring home Bailee Brown (2-4).
- Tusculum's Dani Beckham recorded the win and Megan Ackerman had the save.
UP NEXT: The Mountain Lions return to action at the YHC Softball Field this weekend where they will take on the Wasps of Emory & Henry University (Mar 1
st-2
nd). First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 4PM and 12PM/2:30PM for the double-header Sunday.
