YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Congratulations to Carl Cleveland (Defensive Player of the Week) and Karl Chavis (Player of the Week) for their standout performances, helping the Mountain Lions secure two critical Conference Carolinas victories.Â
Cleveland anchored Young Harris defensively while making history on the glass. In an 82-80 last-second win over King University, he dominated with 17 rebounds, 11 points, three assists, two steals, and a block. He followed that up with a historic performance at Lees-McRae, pulling down 10 rebounds to become Young Harris College's all-time leader in career rebounds. Cleveland also delivered on offense, leading all scorers with 31 points while adding two assists, a block, and a steal in the 80-74 victory. Across both games, he totaled 42 points, 27 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocks, proving his all-around impact.Â
Meanwhile, Karl Chavis electrified the Mountain Lions' offense, earning Player of the Week honors with two dominant performances. Against King, Chavis battled early foul trouble and missed much of the first half. In the second half, Chavis started to put his foot on the gas pedal. Young Harris trailed by 11 with seven minutes to play. That's when Chavis took over, igniting the crowd with a thunderous dunk that sparked a comeback. He finished the night with a career-high 35 points and three assists, lifting YHC to a thrilling two-point victory. On the road against Lees-McRae, Chavis remained unstoppable, scoring 26 points and dishing out four assists in an 80-74 win. Over the two games, he racked up 61 points and seven assists while setting a new career high in scoring.Â
