YH Softball Dominates the Competition at Bearcat Classic

GREENWOOD, S.C. | The Young Harris College softball team kicked off their appearance in the annual Bearcat Classic, hosted by Lander University. On Friday (Feb. 14) afternoon, the Mountain Lions played two games; the first against USC Aiken and the second against host team Lander. Young Harris won both games, taking down USC Aiken in extra innings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

(GAME ONE) 

  • The Mountain Lions defeated the Pacers, 4-3 in extra innings. 

  • Abby Pendergrass pitched all eight innings for Young Harris, earning the win, and striking out four batters along the way. 

  • Peri Rouillard batted in two runs for the Pacers. 

  • In the bottom of the eighth, Shayla Pennington singled through the left side to walk it off for Young Harris College. 

(GAME TWO) 

  • YH softball took on the Bearcats of Lander and defeated them 3-0. 

  • Grace Young took the circle in game two and dealt all night long; Young gave the Mountain Lions 5.2 strong innings. 

  • Jess Jaruszewski once again delivered at the plate, this time driving a two-run home run over the fence in left-center field. 

  • The Mountain Lions bats began to catch fire in the 6th and 7th innings, scoring three in the former, and four in the latter inning. 

  • Kendall Fraser came in to pinch hit, and laced a two RBI single up the middle. 

  • Gracie Hughes came into the game late and recorded the final four outs for Young Harris. 

UP NEXT: 
Young Harris returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 22) afternoon, for the annual Bear Bash tournament hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University.
