Mountain Lions Battle in Conference Carolinas Opener

Pembroke, N.C. | Young Harris College Women's Basketball opened Conference Carolinas play Saturday afternoon with a hard-fought 77-71 loss against UNC Pembroke at the English E. Jones Center. The Mountain Lions moved to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in league action after a competitive contest that featured three ties. 

Young Harris trailed 37-26 at halftime but stormed back in the third quarter, outscoring the Braves 25-19 to cut the deficit to five heading into the final frame. The Mountain Lions continued to push in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points, but UNC Pembroke held on late to secure the win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Kamryn Bates led Young Harris with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting and added two assists. 

  • Joy Tchamabe provided a strong presence off the bench with 13 points and six rebounds. 

  • Rhiannon Saller filled the stat sheet with six points, seven rebounds, and four assists. 

  • The Mountain Lions dominated second-chance opportunities with 22 points and scored 34 points in the paint. 

  • Young Harris shot 40.3% from the field and 35% from three-point range while pulling down 38 rebounds. 

  • The Braves were led by Bre'Asia Washington, who scored 19 points.
