WILSON, NC. The Mountain Lions fell short to the Barton Bulldogs this afternoon, with a final score of 73-77 (Jan 18
th). However,
Carl Cleveland still managed to put up impressive numbers. He finished with 29 points and 7 boards.Â
Â
The Mountain Lions move to 10-5 overall and are 5-2 in Conference Carolinas. The Bulldogs move to 8-8 overall and are 4-4 in Conference Carolinas.Â
QUOTING HEAD COACH JEREMY CURRIER:
"Credit to Barton, they are a tough team that made winning plays down the stretch. We had a number of opportunities to win the game and struggled to come up with the defensive stop or rebound when we needed it the most. We wanted to play with an attack mentality on offense and get the ball to the rim and draw fouls, we cannot miss 11 free throws and bring home the win. We will learn from this and improve as we have another high scoring team coming in Monday in Francis Marion, who has won their last two games and are averaging 103 points per game in that time. Our defense will need to be better than it was tonight."
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Carl Cleveland neared another 30-point game today, finishing with 29. He made 4 of 8 from the 3PT line, in addition to 7 rebounds.Â
- Karl Chavis was another notable player for YHC who finished with 16 points and 7 boards.Â
- Shawn Nelson held his own for the Bulldogs with 22 points and 16 rebounds.Â
- The Mountain Lions had 14 turnovers to the Bulldogs' 6.
- Barton seemed to be the aggressors on defense with 8 steals in comparison to only 4 for Young Harris. Â
UP NEXT:Â The Mountain Lions return home this Monday (Jan 20
th) and will take on the Francis Marion Patriots in a 5:30PM tip-off.Â
