Young Harris Loses to Emmanuel in Divisional Contest

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College volleyball lost to Emmanuel University, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Emmanuel jumped out to a quick 12-2 lead in the first set. Two kills from Nicole Klucharich and a Joha Bernis service ace helped the Mountain Lions temporarily shift the momentum. Young Harris went back-and-forth with Emmanuel in the scoring column, but the Lions utilized their early lead, and a five-point spurt closed out the first set.

Klucharich got the Mountain Lions rolling in the second set, scoring three straight points to put the Mountain Lions up 8-5. Sophie Bearden found the hardwood late in the set to tie it at 17. Riley Alyssa DeSimone found Klucharich for the point to tie the score yet again, this time at 22. Emmanuel scored the next three points to take the set.

Emmanuel took set three 25-20 to close out the match. Abby Schirm registered a kill to cut the Mountain Lions deficit to one, 9-8. Emmanuel scored seven of the next nine points, lengthening their advantage to 16-10. Young Harris scored four straight points late, which brought the score to 20-17, but Emmanuel closed out the set and the match.

NOTABLE STATS
  • Nicole Klucharich had a game-high 13 kills.
  • Emmanuel's Ellie Jackson (12), Layla Bland (8), and Emily Hanson (7) combined for 27 kills.
  • Rylee (Alyssa) DeSimone finished the match with 24 assists. This marks back-to-back nights with 24 assists as she hit the same mark against Erskine.
  • Joha Bernis had 17 digs.

The Mountain Lions return to action next Friday against King University in the Harp at 6:00 p.m.
